August Suck (ca. 1830-1921), pronounced “Sook”, came to the U.S. in the 1850s. With cellist Wulf Fries, he published a cello tutor in 1879, reissued in 1901.
In 1881 they became founding members of the Boston Symphony.
The Nocturne and Andante came from an archive of unpublished Suck manuscripts, which also includes a Tarantella and a Concerto for Cello and Piano, 6 Caprices for Solo Cello, and a Variations for Cello and Orchestra.
These 2 duets edited by Douglas B. Moore are easy to intermediate, rarely going into tenor clef. The parts are equal.
